Especially gallant, insane or suicidal Goblins like to exhibit their Squig herding skills by jumping on to Squigs and attempting to ride them into battle as the leap about. These ‘Squig Hoppers’ as other goblins call them, are a terrible danger to friend and foe alike....but mostly to themselves.
I started this picture sortly after talking to ~Manixolated about Squigs and he suggested I do a classic Squig Hopper. So here it is …
The classic style Cave Squig differs from the one in my previous Cave Squig picture: [link]
in that it has earlobes instead of reptile-like holes and a much more spherical body with a thinner tale. Also note the horns which gives the goblin something to hold onto!
I tried to get a sense of movement into this piece.
Adding the shadow was a little difficult as it needed to be place below (rather than simply behind) and distorted to give the impression the squig is jumping (I’m still not sure if I’ve got it exactly right)
As with many of my other pictures I added the sepia tones, ink splatter and lettering to finish off the picture. Some time in the future I might do another version of this piece with a digitally added background.
I love your style in this one. Good job on especially the horns, as with how you've captured the movement. There's this wonderful dark sense of humour in all of your pictures. I came here with a general feeling of gloominess, and it seems you've lifted my spirits a little.
Haha this is great! much more organic and spontanious than mine, the arms and legs flailing arround are very entertaining and very goblinlike.
I'd say you definately succeeded in showing motion, his clothing and necklace make it very believable and motion is a tough beast to tame with pencils. (or with anything for that matter)
Good job on the shadow too!

I'm glad you enjoyed my pictures ... at lot of people see the darkness but not the humour in my works
